My Life as a Zucchini at Vancity Theatre
Claude Barras' My Life as a Zucchini is not the average animated film. Short-listed for both the best foreign language film and best animated feature of the year before succeeding and making the nominations list in the Best Animated Feature category at this year's Oscars, this touching coming-of-age story is a poignant tale about a child sent to an orphanage after the accidental death of his alcoholic single mother, the friends he makes there, and the relationship he strikes up with a friendly cop.
Both the original French version with subtitles, as well as the English dub version starring the voice talents of Will Forte, Nick Offerman, Ellen Page, and Amy Sedaris, will be screening at the Vancity Theatre from February 24 to March 19.

The number of women currently working behind the camera in TV and film in Canada is 17%. As a way to help boost those numbers Women in View, in collaboration with the Director's Guild of Canada, has launched "2X More."
The initiative aims to double the number of female directors from 17% to 35% by 2018. This infusion of talent will provide critical boost to Canada's creative industries, set a new milestone and help make gender equity a part of the Canadian media landscape.
On Thursday, March 2, join Women in View and BC Creates as they host "She's Calling the Shots: Advancing Women Directors in Animation and Live Scripted." The panel discussion taking place at the Vancity Theatre from 4:30PM to 6:00PM includes top executives from DHX Media, Rainmaker Entertainment as well as "2X More" program participant Heather Hawthorn-Doyle.
The discussion will be followed by a reception.
