Over his 30 year career as a character designer, Spanish artist Borja Montoro has worked on everything from Tarzan to Zootopia, along the way developing a method to character design which has shaped many of our favourite characters.
Mr. Montoro wowed a sold-out crowd at SPARK ANIMATION 2015, and we are pleased to announce that he will be returning to Vancouver for a day-long masterclass on character design with a focus on creation with the necessary nuance that the work may be used in other phases of animation.
This is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the most celebrated character designers working today.

Borja Montoro was born in Madrid, Spain where he studied law, Montoro never practiced his profession, choosing instead to pursue his boyhood love for drawing. Today, with almost 30 years of experience in the animation industry, he is one of the most sought after character animators and designers.
With a career that has taken him around the world, Borja has worked with the very best in animation. From Ireland where he worked with Bluth Studios as an animator on All Dogs go to Heaven II to Paris where he worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation France on such major features as Hercules, The Emperor’s New Groove as well as The Jungle Book II, and director Roger Aller’s Academy Award nominated short, The Little Match Girl.
While in Paris, Borja was part of the team who animated the character of adult Tarzan under Glen Keane’s direct supervision. He followed that experience by returning to Madrid where he spent several years working at the Sergio Pablos Animation Studio, aka the SPA Studios.
Today, Borja is a much sought after artist working as a character designer. Some of his work includes the upcoming feature Smallfoot for Warner Bros. Other work includes Sony Pictures’ TV Special Smurfy Hollow, and Dreamworks TV Animation character designs for Puss in Boots.
