SIGGRAPH starts Sunday, August 12 and SPARK is pleased to be partaking in a number of events, including the opening day Diversity and Inclusion Summit and namely, the “Breaking Bias & Barriers” panel presented by moderator Zoe Cranley with Andrea Chlebak, Clara Chan, Kate Bergel, Rachel Rose, Sarah Matthews and Trina Roy.

This panel of successful women in the SIGGRAPH community will discuss how they are ‘Breaking Bias and Barriers,’ focusing on where they are now and if they have experienced bias in their careers. This panel will explore common questions (Where do women experience bias? How do they overcome it?) and more in an effort to shed light on the issues of women in the community but more importantly, to assist the SIGGRAPH community in striving for inclusivity.

The “Diversity & Inclusion Experiences” panel, will tackle the difficult subject of unconscious and implicit biases and how they influence decision making when choosing candidates for jobs, teams, leadership positions, promotions and so on. The panel, made up of panellists Mashhuda Glencross, Kevin Griffin, Daniel Pillis, Aruquia Peixoto, Natalie Rountree, Skawennati and moderator Tony Baylis, will speak about their own personal experiences of how being from an underrepresented group has affected them and their passion to strive for inclusion.

The day will also include featured speakers Dr. Caroline Simard (Clayman Institute for Gender Research) and Michael Bach (Canadian Centre for Diversity & Inclusion).

The Summit is taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, East, Room 11 and is open to conference attendees with a minimum of exhibits only registration. It is limited to 120 participants. Seating will be first come, first served.
