Bao Director Domee Shi Presenting at Conference
SPARK is pleased to announce that Canadian director Domee Shi will be presenting at the SPARK ANIMATION Conference which runs October 27 and 28, 2018
As a young woman living in Toronto, Shi was inspired by the works of Studio Ghibli, 90s anime, Disney, Pixar, as well as Yasujiro Ozu, Ang Lee, and Bong Joon Ho. After graduating from Sheridan College, she began her career at Pixar Animation Studios in 2011 as a story intern and was soon hired as a story intern on the Academy Award®-winning Inside Out. In 2015, she began pitching ideas for a short film and soon was greenlit to write and direct Bao which screened in front of Incredibles 2 earlier this year.
At the SPARK ANIMATION Conference, join Shi and producer Becky Neiman-Cobb, as they walk audiences through the process of making Bao, the first Pixar short film directed by a woman, from initial pitch through final film.
Shi and Neiman-Cobb will dive into the shorts-making process at Pixar, and show how Shi's own experience mixed in with her love of food, fairytales, and Chinatown all came together to create this satisfying, heartfelt short.
