SPARK FX 2019 Adds 4 Free Sessions to Fire You Up

On Saturday, February 9 from 10:45 am to 5:15 pm, SPARK FX 2019 offers four sessions free to all those interested in furthering their ambitions in the VFX and animation fields. First, find out how to kickstart a career as a texture painter in an exploration of the texture workflows in the 3D painting software Mari, presented by Method Studios’ texture painter Paul H. Paulino, (Aquaman, Godzilla II, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).

Electronic Arts’ senior game designer Katie Scott (Need for Speed, Battlefield, FIFA ’17 “The Journey”) tackles diversity and inclusion in “Creating Kim Hunter: The First Female Playable Football Hero,” while Andy van Straten of Ziva will close off the day with a presentation on "Making Muscular Characters."

Attendess of the "Making Muscular Characters" workshop will be entered to win over $500 worth of Ziva prizes!

The sessions are taking place at Emily Carr in Rennie Hall. Registration for these free sessions is now open.

SPARK FX Is a Week Away

We’re just over away from SPARK FX 2019, and if you haven’t done so yet, now is the time to check out the full schedule.

Presentations include behind-the-scenes looks at some of the best received movies of 2018, including Alfonso Cuarón’s 10-time Oscar®-nominated Roma, the Oscar®-nominated First Man, as well as one of the most eagerly-anticipated early releases of 2019: Alita: Battle Angel.

Conference passes, which provide you full access to all presentations, are available for $225. Group of 5 or more get a discount of 10% (note that group pricing is only available through online advance sales).

Tickets to the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse presentation taking place on Friday, February 8 at 7PM, are now available for online purchase for $20. This presentation is included free of charge to conference pass holders.

Single conference tickets to all presentations, with the exception of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will also be available for $30 each at the door. These are not available for online purchase.

All prices includes taxes and fees.

Diversity & Inclusion Summit Filling Quickly

If you haven’t already registered for this year’s D&I Summit, do not delay because space is filling quickly!

Taking place on Sunday, February 10 at Emily Carr University, Rennie Hall, this year’s Summit will go beyond talking about the issues of diversity and inclusion to provide an afternoon of talks and discussion on practical ways and solutions to deal with the important issues including equal pay, how to navigate difficult situations regarding when it comes to career paths, as well as the balance of work and family commitments.
