The Visual Storytelling of Anthem

One of the latest titles in the online multiplayer action role-playing videogame arena is Anthem which drops players into a vast world full of technology and forgotten treasures, where savage beasts and ruthless marauders are defeated by Freelancers who are called upon to defeat the forces plotting to conquer humanity.

Whether you’re a superfan or just curious, join us on Saturday, April 27 at 1:30 pm as Chris van Dyck, Fenner Rockliffe and Kenson Wang of CVD VFX detail the game cutscenes, including how to leverage game engine renders and deep compositing to tell a story in every frame.

The presentation will take place at Vancouver Film School (420 Homer Street). Tickets are $10 and $9 for groups of 5 or more (note that group pricing is only available through online advance sales).

There will be a meet-and-greet following the presentation at the licensed VFS Cafe.

VEC Career Fair

If you missed your opportunity to attend the SPARK FX career fair or want more time with a recruiter, here’s your second chance.

The Digital Entertainment Career Fair is taking place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, April 6, at the Vancouver Convention Centre (999 Canada Place), the event will include 35 of Vancouver’s top studios and companies including Animal Logic, BRON, DHX Media, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Mainframe Studios, Image Engine, Zoic, CVD VFX, Method Studios, and Scanline VFX among many others.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, this is also your opportunity to meet with and ask questions of the SPARK team. Look for our table to get more info on volunteer opportunities and find out more about upcoming events.

Behind the Scenes of Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody immersed fans in the music of Queen. On Saturday, March 30, learn how the team did it as Academy Award-winning Composer/Editor, John Ottman and Academy Award-winning Music and Re-Recording Mixer, Paul Massey present “Creating A Scene: Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Taking place at Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour Street), the presentation will begin at 10 am (doors at 9 am) and includes complimentary coffee and pastries as well as a meet and greet.

Mr. Ottman and Mr. Massey will provide a rare opportunity to see and hear the award-winning post production craftsmanship behind this extraordinary film.
