Tony Bancroft Masterclass Is Next Week!

There’s only a little over a week left to secure your spot to learn about the fine art of animating comedy from Tony Bancroft.

A 30+ year veteran of the animation industry, Mr. Bancroft has worked in nearly every capacity in the animation industry including a twelve year tenure at Disney Feature Animation working on such classics as Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, as well as directing Mulan.

On Saturday, June 29, join Mr. Bancroft for an in depth dive into animating comedy characters. The day-long masterclass will be divided into four sessions, each covering a specific aspect of animating comedic characters, opening with insights from his career, moving into the history of animated comedy characters and archetypes, followed by a session examining and breaking down specific visual gags and how they have evolved over time and closing the day with a lesson on finding the comedic moments in dialogue and pantomime scenes.

Tickets to the masterclass are $125 each ($112.50 for groups of 5 or more) including all taxes and fees. Each ticket also includes a boxed lunch.

SPARK ANIMATION 2019: Submissions Open

The Dam Keeper, We Can’t Live Without Cosmos, Borrowed Time, Garden Party; this is your chance to join the ranks of SPARK ANIMATION Festival Award Winners!

Submissions have officially opened for SPARK ANIMATION 2019, which is taking place October 24 to 27.

Whether you’re a student or polished filmmaker, working independently or a studio, SPARK is pleased to accept all types of animation and offer a wide range of categories for submission not to mention a Festival Jury made up of animation industry luminaries.

RenderMan Vancouver Event Next Week

On Thursday, 27 June 2019, take part in the 4th Official RenderMan Vancouver User Group presentation!

Kicking off with a mixer from 7 pm to 8 pm, the event, which is taking place at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island (1412 Cartwright Street), will include new presentations from Sarah Forcier, Pixar's RenderMan Team, who will demo the latest in RenderMan for Houdini, Wayne Wooten, also of Pixar's RenderMan Team, who will discuss news and updates on the latest in RenderMan and upcoming RenderMan 22.6, as well as Christos Obretenov of Lollipop Shaders who will present on the latest in Non Photoreal Rendering in RenderMan 22.

The evening will also include a case study of Laika’s latest feature Missing Link with a very special surprise guest from Laika Studios.

Creative City Strategy Survey Closes Monday

Over the past 18+ months, the City of Vancouver has engaged a broad spectrum of voices from the arts and culture community to help develop the Creative City Strategy, a comprehensive new cultural plan for Vancouver.

Informed by the information gathered so far, a draft of the Creative City Strategy has been developed and the City of Vancouver wants to know what you think of the draft plan and what matters most to you.

The survey will allow you to review the proposed goals and recommendations and your feedback will help inform the Creative City Strategy report being presented to Vancouver City Council in September 2019.

The survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, can be found here. Responses close at noon on Monday, 24 June.
