WIA Diversity Award Winners Announced
For the third year running, the Spark CG Society is pleased to partner with Women in Animation to present the WIA Diversity Awards which were established to recognize and honour individuals, films and organizations that have made a significant impact in expanding the diversity of voices in the art and industry of animation, either through their own creative work, by fostering the work of others, or by leading diversity initiatives that enrich our industry and society.
This year, we are pleased to honour Melissa Cobb, Vice President, Original Animation, Netflix; filmmaker Brenda Lopez for her short film ABEO; and Sony Pictures Animation. Karen Toliver, Executive Vice President, Sony Pictures Animation will collect the prize on behalf of Sony Pictures Animation.
The awards will be presented by WIA President Marge Dean at the Animation Celebration taking place 24 October at 7:15 pm at the Scotiabank Theatre (900 Burrard Street).
The Animation Celebration will also include the presentation of the SPARK Lifetime Achievement Award to Bonnie Arnold. The award will be presented by Chris Buck, Kevin Lima and Glen Keane. The event will close with the presentation and screening of the Spark award-winning films including special guests Siqi Song, director of “Best in Show” winner Sister; Christopher Ferriter and Richard Enriquez, directors of Kerbal Space Program 2 which won the Cinematic category; Jeremiah Williams, winner of the Music Video category with Osirika “Black Champagne”; and Ricardo Bonisoli and Babak Bina, directors of The Seahorse Trainer which won the VFX category and will also be awarded the VES Vancouver Section “Rising Star” award.
